Good governance, to tell the bitter truth rather very painfully and regretfully, has whithered away in the thin air even before it became visible in any form and its fruit started reaching the common man in the street. Country's fourth military dictator had also raised the slogan of good governance plus the economic reforms agenda.
None of these were witnessed any where around during the nine years from 1999 to 2007 though the economic wizard prime minister played havoc with the national economy and the poor masses were continuously fed with tainted facts and figures making persistently tall claims that Pakistan is being fast turned into the Asian Tiger as all round progress, development and growth is taking place and prosperity is just around the corner.
When the civilian regime came into power after the February 2008 general election, good governance slogan again echoed in the ears of the poor people, who most unfortunately have been fed with clichés and hollow promises over all these years by military dictators as well as civilian regimes.
This poor scribe just cannot understand what the military and the civilian rulers mean when they tell the masses that they are working on plans and programmes on priority basis for ensuring good governance throughout the country on all levels.
Prices of essential articles like wheat, rice, sugar etc are sky rocketing in an unabated manner. Electricity , gas fares are going up continuously and the petrol prices have already touched peak. In blockbuster demonstration of good governance, through a notification out of the blue moon,Intelligence Bureau and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) were placed under the control of the Interior Ministry. So, where is good governance.
