The government has established a special revolving fund of Rs 650 million for those farmers intending to establish their own fish farms in Punjab and the government would give them the soft-term easy loans on two percent mark up ratio for this purpose.
According to the official sources, the provincial government has also evolved a comprehensive strategy to modernise the fisheries sector and promotion of the fisheries in the province. Besides, spending more than Rs 120 million on as many as 11 fisheries development main schemes in the Punjab, as the government has focused on the promotion of fisheries.
The official sources added that as many as 65,000 metric tons fish was being produced annually in Punjab and SMEDA was providing the low-cost staff to the willing fishermen of Punjab, enabling them to grow up for developing the fisheries sector.
They said that fisheries department has also planned to conduct a special scientific research for enhancing the maximum production of the Maha Shir fish kind and producing the consignments of this fish for export purposes, as the Malaysia has shown keen interest in importing Maha Shir fish from Pakistan to the other countries.
