The weekly SPI inflation surged by 31.48 percent in the week ending on August 13, over the same period of last year, because of increase in the prices of 29 essential commodities, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics.
The data released by the FBS on Friday showed increase in the prices of 29 essential kitchen items, adding dearness for families bracketed in Rs 3000 monthly income to 33.55 percent following an increase of 0.54 percent in inflation during the week.
The SPI inflation surged to 31.48 percent during the few months from 26.16 percent because of successive increase in petroleum products prices. Dearness increased by 0.58 percent for low income group, Rs 3000, followed by 0.56 perent for families bracketed in Rs 3001 to Rs 12000. The dearness increased by 0.59 percent for the families having monthly income of over Rs 12,000 monthly.
With this increase in prices, the dearness surged by 33.55 percent for the families having Rs 3000 monthly income over the corresponding week of the last year and 32.36 percent for the families bracketed between Rs 3001 and Rs 5000 income group. Similarly, the dearness surged 31.77 percent for families earning Rs 5000 to Rs 12 000 monthly income and 31.26 percent for over Rs 12000 income families.
Increase in essential commodities was recorded 31.26 percent for families above Rs 12000 income group in the SPI bulletin, based on data of 53 items collected from 17 urban centres showed increase in prices of 29 essential commodities decline in 9 while prices of 15 commodities remained stable, but dearer compared to last year.
COMMODITIES WHOSE PRICES SURGED DURING THE WEEK: The price of tea pack 250 gm increased to Rs 90 from Rs 83, onion kg to Rs 23.44 from Rs 21.90, garlic kg to Rs 41.94 from Rs 40.20, LPG (11 kg cylinder) each to Rs 884.59 from Rs 848.82, chicken (farm) kg to Rs 105.24 from Rs 102.42, bath soap life bouy cake to Rs 20.25 from Rs 20, curd kg to Rs 41.95 from Rs 41.50, sugar kg to Rs 31.93 from Rs 31.60, coarse latha metre to Rs 43.78 from Rs 43.34, gur kg to Rs 34.15 from Rs 33.82, wheat average quality kg to Rs 21.78 from Rs 21.59, viol printed metre to Rs 45.52 from Rs 45.14, wheat flour average quality to Rs 24.09 from Rs 23.90, milk fresh litre to Rs 35.18 from Rs 34.91, firewood 40 kg to Rs 249.78 from Rs 248.01, shirting metre to Rs 75.62 from Rs 75.12, cooked dal plate each to Rs 24.74 from Rs 24.59, mustard oil kg to Rs 151.56 from Rs 150.99, gram pulse washed kg to Rs 62.59 from Rs 62.39, potatoes kg to Rs 24.96 from Rs 24.88, masoor pulse washed kg to Rs 122.06 from Rs 121.70, bread plain mid size each to Rs 22.44 from Rs 22.38 25, mutton kg to Rs 251.33 from Rs 250.70, kerosene litre to Rs 71.89 from Rs 71.74, veg ghee (tin) 2.5 kg to Rs 395.00 from Rs 394.71, cooking oil (tin) 2.5 litre to Rs 398.00 from Rs 397.82.
