Provincial Minister for Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Tanvir-ul-Islam has said that solid measures have been taken by the government for the promotion of education which will help bring education revolution in a real sense. He stated this while addressing the prize-distribution ceremony of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Bahawalpur, says a press release issued here on Saturday.
He said that comprehensive strategy has been adopted by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif for the eradication of backwardness and illiteracy from the province and enrolment campaign from the primary level has been started in this regard.
Chairperson Education Board Ms Bilqees Akram, Secretary Board Professor Waheed Akhtar Nayyar, President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr Rana Muhammad Tariq, Board officials, parents, teachers and a large number of students were present on this occasion.
The minister said that the government is working on solid basis for the promotion of education. He congratulated the position-holders and expressed the hope that in future they would show the same spirit. He said that all the position-holders in intermediate examination 2008 would be the guest of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for four days in Murree.
He also announced a grant of Rs 200, 000 for Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Bahawalpur on behalf of the Sports Board Punjab. He said that four percent share would be provided by the Sports Board Punjab for the sports activities of Bahawalpur Education Board. He stressed upon the students to work hard so that they could play their due role for the national development.
Later, the minister gave away medals, cash prizes and certificates among the position-holders. According to results, Isra Afzal from Chishtian Science College for Girls obtained first position with 1004 marks. Hira Abdul Jabbar of Govt. Sadiq Degree College for Women got second position with 995 marks while Tayyaba Mumtaz of Chishtian Science College for Girls and Muhammad Usama Bashir were declared third with 991 marks.-PR
