Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has said that since country's independence a number of forces started intriguing against it. He said that due to these conspiracies, in 1971 the country was split into two parts and no lesson had been learnt from mistakes of the past.
However, he showed optimism that conspirators would reach their logical conclusion and would be defeated. This he averred in the Annual Dealers Convention 2008 of Metro Group of Companies at a local hotel on Sunday.
He said that the government in order to consolidate economy of the country should evolve people friendly policies. The Speaker said that it was during tenure of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif that country became a nuclear power. He asked upon the government to make the country economic power.
Referring to agricultural situation in the country, Punjab Assembly Speaker pointed that due to faulty policies of the previous government the country was importing food items. He said it was tragic that a country, which used to feed the entire region, was importing wheat.
He asked the government to reduce its expenses, give subsidy to consumers; endeavour to reduce its leaning on foreign loans. He with a view to give respite to farmers asked the government to provide fertilisers at cheaper rates to them. He further demanded subsidy on diesel to be given to farmers.
The Speaker who belongs to a reputable political family of Kasur is the son of late parliamentarian Rana Phool. He said if the farmer of the country was economically strong, the country would prosper.
Punjab Assembly Speaker stressed upon the authorities to award rigorous punishments to person involved in hoarding, making of spurious drugs.
Talking on law & order situation in the province, the Speaker said that due to prudent policies of CM Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, there was reduction in crime occurrence in the province. The function was also addressed by president of Metro Group of Industries Imtiaz Ahmad. The Speaker on the occasion distributed prizes amongst the dealers. Honorary shield was presented to the Speaker by president of the company.
