River Indus was in low flood at Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur , Flood Warning Centre said here on Sunday. It said that River Sutlej at Gandasinghwala and Sulemanki was likely to remain in low to medium flood during the following 24 hours. River Ravi at Balloki and River Kabul at Nowshera were also in low flood.
The FWC told Business Recorder that more than 65,000 cusecs water was flowing downstream Sulemanki headworks and Gandasingwala. The flood wave in Sutlej river would pass through district Vihari on Monday and the administration had asked the people living in the riverbed to vacate the area. Vehari District Administration has put all departments and police throughout the district on high alert and the 159 villages are likely to be hit by the floods.
Flood in Sutlej River has hit scores of villages in the districts of Kasur and Okara, and standing crops on hundreds of acres of land were washed away.
Army soldiers, equipped with boats and relief material, have arrived at the Baseerpur flood-hit areas of Okara. Water level at Gandasinghwala had again started rising. The Indus was in low flood at Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur with respective discharge of 2,70,000 cusecs, 2,52,000 cusecs, 2,60,000 cusecs, and 2,37,000 cusecs. There has been a significant increase in the inflow of water at the last barrage on the Indus, Kotri barrage, where upstream discharge was 1,29,900 cusecs and downstream outflow was 1,00,000 cusecs.
Met Department said that monsoon weak system was at a height of 3,000 feet in Punjab and Kashmir. It further said that upper Sindh, Punjab's mountainous areas and Kashmir are likely to receive scattered rains during the next 24 hours. During the last 24 hours, Gandasinghwala recorded 46 mm rain, Sargodha 25, Okara 14, Rawalakot 12, Lahore 11 and Jauharabad 10 mm rain.
