Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, has said that new president will be elected with the consultation of the allies and different names are being considered, such as Justice Fakharuddin G Ibrahim, Justice Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui and Ataullah Mangel. He expressed these views while talking to journalists during his visit to the Bilqees Edhi Welfare Centre here on Wednesday.
Moreover, he also said that the new president should be a symbol of unity and should work for prosperity and stability of the country. He added the president is supposed to strengthen the federation rather than sending political leaders in exile or undermining national institutions as was done by a former dictator.
On judges' issue he said that the Peoples' Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N had agreed on August 5 and August 7 for restoration of pre-November judiciary. "Restoration of judges is essential for supremacy of law in the country and a society cannot survive without justice."
In addition, he said that independence of judiciary and prosperity of the country are closely linked. A committee has also been constituted to deal with the issue of judges and the allies have taken 72 hours for presenting their recommendations.
Restoration of deposed judges and setting up of an independent judiciary will be victory of 160 million people of Pakistan, he added.
Earlier, he announced to transfer a vacant plot of the Punjab government in Quaid-e-Azam Town to Edhi Welfare Centre and necessary orders will also be issued in this regard. He said the government would continue to assist in the welfare activities of Abdul Sattar Edhi in future as well. Later, he met the homeless children in the centre and Abdul Sattar Edhi accompanied him.
