The average price of Bangladesh teas rose 1.87 percent to 121.73 taka ($1.78) per kg on higher demand at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. Nearly 1.4 million kg were sold at 121.73 taka per kg on average, up 2.23 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 7.53.
"Improved demand from all sections of the market pushed the prices upward," said an executive of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker. Pakistani and Bangladeshi buyers including exporters, mainly for the Commonwealth of Independent States and Afghanistan participated in the auction.
Some 150 kg of well-made Pekoe Fannings realised the highest price of 147 taka per kg followed by another 500 kg Churamoni Dust selling at 141 taka per kg. Other grades were sold between 95 taka and 138 taka per kg. The next weekly auction will be held on September 2 nearly 1.3 1.44 million kg on offer.
