3,335kg poppy straw, 80 bags of onion recovered

A credible information was received by Fazal Qadir Qalbani, Director, Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi, that a considerable quantity of contraband poppy straw is being smuggled into the country from Afghanistan to interior Sindh via Quetta-Balochistan.
In pursuance of said information, a team of intelligence officers at Sukkur was constituted who intercepted one Truck bearing registration No TKM-504 coming from Quetta side, near Sukkur. During search of the truck 65 jute bags of poppy straw (Doda), weighing 3,335 Kgs, concealed underneath and 80 jute bags of onion recovered.
One person namely Juma Khan Kanghio S/o Abdul Rehman has been arrested. The recovered poppy straws along with the conveyance have been seized under provisions of the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997, after fulfilling the legal formalities. The FIR, has been lodged in the Honourable court of Special Judge, Control of Narcotics Substances, Sukkur. Further investigations are under way and efforts are being made to apprehend under ground accused persons behind the racket.-PR
