In Indian occupied Kashmir, a group of senior journalists has demanded of South Asian Free Media Association (Safma) to raise its voice against the curbs on media in the occupied Kashmir territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the senior journalists in a joint statement said that the Safma members had staged massive protests to express solidarity with the journalists in Nepal when the government had imposed restrictions on press there.
Meanwhile, local newspapers could not come to the market for seventh day on Saturday and local cable operators have switched off all news channels. Doordarshan channels and Pakistani news channel, Geo are the only means for the Kashmiri people to know about the happenings in the world. Similarly, people, having the facility, are using Internet to go through the newspapers of Kashmir and international media.
It is pertinent to mention here that all the local news channels had stopped airing programmes since August 24 after the district magistrate, occupied Srinagar, asked them to stop telecasting news and current affairs programmes.
The management of a leading English daily 'Greater Kashmir', available on Internet, said that they could not publish the newspaper, as staff could not make it to office due to curfew restrictions.
