"Democratic government has a great responsibility to the people of the country to attend to the miseries and problems faced by them either in the form of sinking economy or containing inflation by determining their causes by a team of professionals and take swift and fast decisions which may arrest the fatal and deteriorating situation.
Sinking economy is manifested in the form of debacle in the Stock Exchanges and free fall devaluation of the rupee, resulting in multiplicity of consequences in the form of sustaining huge losses, bankruptcies, joblessness, closure of businesses and industries, increase in inflation, psychological problems owing to increase in criminal activities, suicides and increase in terrorism.
In my modest opinion, professional people should be hired and charged with finding immediate and long term solutions to revert the process of sinking economy and devaluation of the rupee. The real problem facing the country is that people at large and investors, indigenous as well as foreign, have lost their interest in the existing pattern of governance, which may qualify, the pattern of democracy but do not satisfy and fulfil the needs of the people which has resulted in the total despondency and despair.
It is absolutely necessary that actions should bring about confidence in the people, because presently they feel that their problems are of no importance to the government as they are busy in pursuing their objectives which has nothing to do with the wellbeing of the masses. To start with government should announce their programme as to how they plan to arrest the falling trend and it should be well manifested by actions because people are not interested in promises and assurances.
In my opinion, the present set-up of the government should be divided into two portions, one set should attend to political objectives and another set should consist of professionals, if need be, to be hired to attend to the problems which can create confidence of the investors and attract them to start taking fresh interest in the economic activities. Investors at large look upon continuity of policies which should be supported through constitutional means.
Besides, the government should find out and remove all causes which have created terrorism. Pakistan is a developing country which should not indulge in problems of others but restrict its outlook for the betterment and progress of its people.
For this our entire policies should be neutral in all spheres of life. As they say, actions speak louder than words. We should have the best of relations with our neighbours as well as with the rest of the world on a policy of non-interference in anyone's affairs. At this juncture, I would like to suggest that in order to overcome and reduce the burden of debts, the government should propagate and patronise the indigenous goods and ban the imports of all those products which are locally produced.
Only the most essential and life saving items should be allowed for imports. This can result in arresting the decay, boosting the economy and infusing the confidence of investors.
