The founder Chairman of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), Munir Ahmad has retired after completing his two tenures of eight years on September 6. Ahmad has served the Federal Government in the Ministry of Petroleum and NR in various capacities and thereafter as the Founder Chairman of Ogra for about 42 years, according to a statement issued here on Friday.
He holds a master Degree in Petroleum Geology with distinction from Punjab University. During his stay with the Government as well as Ogra, he gained a unique experience of dealing with the policy matters and economic, financial, development and regulatory affairs of the petroleum sector, the statement added.
Before joining Ogra, he held the position of Director General (Gas) in the Ministry of Petroleum and NR for about 17 years. He had been a Director on the Board of several petroleum sector companies including the two major utilities viz SNGPL and SSGCL for over 20 years.
He held the position of Managing Director, Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) in 1989 and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in 1999. Ahmad's achievements include the development of a Gas Pricing Framework for the Gas Producers in 1999, which paved the way for accelerated development of the newly discovered gas fields in the country and at the same time, salvaged the interest of the country in the form of savings of billions of dollars.
Other major achievement is the establishment of Ogra, a challenging job in the prevailing environment, which has been accomplished most successfully and Ogra is now fully established and discharging its responsibilities of looking after the interest of all stakeholder, in particular, the consumers.
