Brazil exported 1.89 million 60-kg bags of green coffee in August, down 3.3 percent from 1.95 million bags in the same month a year ago, the Council of Green Coffee Exporters (Cecafe) said on Friday. Brazil shipped 1.79 million bags of green coffee in July, the council said in a statement.
August shipments included 1.59 million bags of arabica beans, down 10.5 percent from the same month last year. Robusta shipments rose 69.4 percent from a year ago to 296,339 bags.
Soluble coffee exports fell 1.7 percent in August to 278,057 bags from 282,843 bags in August 2007. Brazil's total coffee exports fell 3.1 percent in the month to 2.167 million bags, while earnings climbed 18.6 percent to $354.1 million compared with last year.
