The President, Sindh Agriculture forum, Noor Ahem Nizamani has demanded immediate opening of the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam so that thousands of its students could resume their studies and pursue their careers.
Nizamani regretted that it is a matter of shame that the second largest agriculture university of Pakistan has remained closed for the past two months just because a handful employees, who want unjust favour from the university.
These elements are hounding the Vice Chancellor (VC), Dr Bashir Ahmed Sheikh and members of the university administration.
'The agriculture community of Sindh just cannot stand idle at the closure of this institution and let thousands of its students and research fellows suffer,' he said,
Further, Nizamani claimed that the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) and other agriculture research institutions around its campus have greatly contributed to the development of agriculture in Sindh.
The Vice Chancellor, SU is not a stranger to this campus as, he has been associated with this institution for more than 30 years. He has contributed his time, talent and energy to the development of this University, the forum president said.
It is because of the VC that the SAU received huge grants from the Government for two mega projects, the food technology and animal products' technology. Both of these projects have been completed and are functioning successfully, he added.
The department of food technology is showcase presentation of the University while it offers modern techniques of post harvest practices and value addition techniques that the agriculture community and common men of Sindh can adopt and use to earn a decent lively hood. Moreover, it is an ISO 9001-2000 certified department.
Nizamani said that the VC has brought the University from a low ranking educational facility into a high quality educational institution recognised all over Pakistan. His efforts towards the development of Sindh Agriculture University should be appreciated. However, it is surprising that some old teachers have also joined the elements propagating against VC and his hard working team.
Nizamani was of the view that it is about time that the responsible citizens of Sindh should stand up and supports the cause of education at this university. Furthermore, those forcing the shutdown of this higher education institution have denied the right of education to thousands of students for no obvious reasons, have committed a crime that amounts to terrorism and high treason. If any one has any grievance against the administration or an individual of an institution, he can go to the court of law.
The agri-forum president further demanded prosecution of people responsible for forceful closure the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) under the law. Nizamani urged the government to restore the academic activities that would help the students and scholars continue their studies and research at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) in a peaceful environment.
