Condemning the ongoing sectarian violence across the country, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain said on Thursday that his party was not the enemy of Pushtoons. This he stated in his simultaneous address to general workers' meeting of his party at 20 different places across Sindh province including party headquarters, Nine Zero.
Altaf said some anti-state elements were promoting sectarian violence in the Pakistan, which was founded by Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to provide every individual with a complete freedom of performing religious rituals. The MQM chief warned the nation against religious extremism and other dividing considerations, like Shia, Sunni and Qadyani saying that this would allow the enemies of Pakistan to exploit the situation.
Condemning sectarian clashes in different parts of the country, including Parachinar, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah etc and the resultant killings, Altaf said Islam was the religion of peace and tranquility.
He also reiterated his concern over the fast increasing threat of "Talibanisation" in Sindh province, particularly in Karachi. He said some people were accusing MQM of harbouring an anti-Pushtoons approach, but nobody should forget the Movement's rehabilitation efforts in NWFP in the post-October 8 devastating earthquake.
