Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that inept policies of the former government have ruined all institutions of the province and a number of challenges are being faced today. However, he said, it is his firm belief that nothing is impossible and all hurdles in the way of development of the province will be removed with collective efforts.
He was addressing the first meeting of Advisory Council at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Friday. Different proposals for rapid development of the province and resource generation for development projects were considered in detail in the meeting.
The Chief Minister said performance of any government is judged on the basis of health, education and law and order situation and improvement of these sectors is the top priority of the present leadership.
He said uplift of agricultural sector is the key to progress and construction of small dams is of vital importance in this regard. Shahbaz said that during his visits to various areas of the province, he had found that people were facing miserable conditions. Most of the schools are without electricity, water supply and furniture while hospitals and rural health centres are without medical staff, medicines and other facilities.
He said that former government spent billions of rupees in the name of Parha Likha Punjab but education sector is in worst imaginable condition today.
Shahbaz said the rate of heinous crimes in the previous era of PML-N government was almost negligible but now murder and other crimes have become a daily routine.
The Chief Minister said every sector was destroyed during the last eight years of dictatorial rule. He added that former government presented fanciful figures about national economy but the ground realities belie all these claims.
Shahbaz said Punjab government has launched development activities throughout the province by setting its priorities within a short period of time and flyovers, expressways and other roads are being constructed across the province.
Similarly, he said, solid measures are being taken for infrastructure development. Shahbaz said that time is money and it will be utilised for the welfare and betterment of the masses.
He said the his government has taken solid measures for the provision of relief to the common man and in addition to supply of 20 kg atta bags to the citizens @ Rs 300 during Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, provision of other essential items at reasonable rates is also being ensured.
The Chief Minister thanked the members of Advisory Council for submitting useful proposals for the generation of resources for development of the province and execution of uplift projects. Former finance minister Sartaj Aziz, Shahid Javed Burki, AZK Sherdil, Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Ali Cheema, Dr Rehan Malik, Alman Aslam, Faisal Bari, Zahid Naveed Hamid, Haroon Khawaja, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development and Secretary Finance were present in the meeting.
