The success or failure of the judicial system is directly linked to the performance of lawyers. No effort aimed at improving the system can be fruitful if it does not account the role of lawyers, said Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar while addressing the seventh Roll Signing Ceremony of Advocates of the Supreme Court, here on Monday.
This was the first time in the history of Pakistan that more than 200 advocates were enrolled in the Supreme Court (SC). The enrolment as advocate of the SC involves a procedure that includes appearance before the Enrollment Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, which is headed by a judge of the Supreme Court. Having appear before the committee and qualified in the interview, the advocates are approved for the enrollment as Advocates of the Supreme Court.
The CJ congratulated newly enrolled members of the bar and said if the lawyers provide adequate assistance to the courts during trial and hearing of the cases, the quality of justice is bound to improve.
He said at this juncture, it is our just expectation that lawyers community as a whole in general, and the newly appointed advocates of this court in particular, will be performing their role in the administration of justice to the best of their abilities. He also said that newly enrolled members of the bar will perform their role through hard work, commitment and dedication to the cause of justice with a resolve to ameliorate the suffering of the litigant public. 'I would call upon them to play their role in ensuring expeditious and inexpensive justice to the victims of crimes whose families suffer untold sufferings,' the CJ said.
He said that unending litigation sometimes rather many a times gives rise to violence and taking law in ones' hands is not only horrible but also intolerable. He urged the legal community to find out ways and means to cater for the needs of the system of administration of justice.
He said that we are also paying attention to solving the other problems by the lawyer community and assured to take up issues being faced by the community with the concerned authorities of the federal government for urgent solution to help lawyers to perform their professional duties with comfort and convenience.
The CJ also vowed to continue paying special attention for administration of justice saying he along with other judges of the SC are playing their part after the assumption of their offices. The enrollment of more than 200 lawyers in the SC is a step taken in this regard, he added. The CJ also deplored the tragic incidence of terrorism, which killed more than 60 people and left hundreds injured saying it an act of cowardice.
