Wholesalers on Thursday raised the price of chicken meat by Rs 18 per kg and live bird by Rs 10 per kg to a historic highs. They said that there is an acute shortage of some 15 million live birds between the supply and demand per day in the city.
Price of chicken meat has reached Rs 252 per kg, which was previously available at a record high of Rs 234 and price of live bird raised to Rs 142 per kg from Rs 132, they said.
The recurrent emergence of the bird flu virus in Sindh has made the many small poultry farmer quit business in the wake of huge financial losses, which resulted in a phenomenal production cut. About three months will be needed to the poultry production to rise to its normal scale, they said.
