National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would organise a two-day disaster management exhibition and conference on third anniversary of the October 8 earthquake. Devastating earthquake in 2005, had played havoc in North West Frontier Province and Azad Jammu and Kashmir killing thousands.
Since inception of tragedy, October 8 is observed as National Disaster Awareness day and many activities are held to share the lessons learnt during relief and reconstruction process that followed the earthquake, an NDMA official told APP.
"The exhibition, alongside the conference, is a unique exercise to show the products, equipment and technology so far available in Pakistan to help in disaster preparedness, mitigation and prevention," he informed, adding, "many firms and industries are likely to showcase their relevant products in the exhibition."
One of its prime objectives is to initiate process of public private partnership in field of disaster awareness and mitigation. Some other programmes have also been chalked out besides the conference, which are aimed at creating awareness and better understanding among government officials, political leaders and society at large, the official said.
