The government has appointed Zamir Akram as Pakistan's ambassador/permanent representative to the United Nations, Geneva. Zamir holds master degrees in International Affairs & International Relations and had joined Foreign Service in 1978.
He served at headquarters as section officer from (1979 & 1981-1982), director from (1987-1989). Held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions abroad: Moscow (1982-1984), Geneva (1984-1986), New Delhi (1989-1994), Washington (1994-1998).
He also served as director general (1998-2000) and minister/deputy head of mission, embassy of Pakistan, Washington from (2000-2002). Besides, he was ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal from (2002-2005). Afterwards, he served as additional secretary (FSA), prime minister's secretariat, Islamabad from March 2005 to July 2008. Presently, he is serving as additional secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.
