After graduating from Pennsylvania University, Steve McCurry worked at a newspaper for two years and then left the United States to freelance on the Indian subcontinent. The material he smuggled out of Afghanistan launched his career in earnest.
His photography is focused on the human consequences of war. McCurry’s accolades include Magazine Photographer of the Year and the Robert Capa Gold Medal for Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad. His work frequently appears in National Geographic Magazine.
