Nawaz Sharif has decided to write a letter, on important policy matters, to the Prime Minister, instead of President Asif Ali Zardari, despite the fact that entire power rests with the latter. The letter is likely to be dispatched to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani by the leader of opposition in National Assembly, Nisar Ali Khan, on Monday.
A leader of PML-N said that the party believes in democracy and supremacy of Parliament, and this is the main reason that the party chief has decided to convey his concerns and suggestions to the Prime Minister, instead of President, about how to come out of the present security crisis.
"Constitutionally, Pakistan has parliamentary form of government, and the Parliament should be supreme and the Prime Minister should have full authority to take decisions on major issues", he said.
He said the party has always been supportive of making Parliament supreme. However, in the letter, there would not be any suggestion regarding the clapping of President's powers. He added that the party does not want to create any other controversy, at this stage. Nawaz would write only on the present law and order situation with recommendations on how to tackle the complicated security issue in the tribal areas, it is learnt. According to sources, formulation of national strategy and adoption of the way of dialogue would also be suggested in the letter.
