Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Azeem Daultana said the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China has added new dimensions in the existing time-tested ties between the two countries.
"Pakistan is playing an important role in the region and the decision of President Zardari to pay first official visit to China reflects the future strategy of present democratic government," he told APP here on Sunday.
Azeem Daultana said the top leadership of two sides held wide-ranging discussions on areas of diverse significance with an objective to add more energy in the relations to withstand the contemporary and future challenges.
Terming the visit as a giant leap forward towards invigorating Pak-China comprehensive strategic partnership, he hoped it would open up new horizons of co-operation. The visit will also help in continuing the mission of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to cement friendly ties between Pakistan and China, he said and added Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto during her time in the government cemented these relations further.
"Our government is also committed to strengthening these all weather ties by extending co-operation in all the areas," he said. Answering a question, Azeem Daultana said during meetings with Chinese leadership both the sides vowed to explore new areas of co-operation as well as expanding interaction in the existing fields.
President Zardari rightly said that China is the future of the world, he said and hoped that civil atomic accord between China and Pakistan would solve problem of energy crisis in Pakistan.
He said series of pacts signed between the two countries during President's visit to enhance bilateral co-operation in energy, agriculture, mining, industry, infrastructure, disaster relief and space technology.
Azeem Daultana said heads and CEOs of key Chinese companies including Telecom during a meeting with the President showed their keen interest to fully avail the investment opportunities in Pakistan.
He said it is also encouraging that a Chinese Telecom company would give Pakistan equipment worth one million US dollars to support its e-governance initiative.
Replying to another question, he said, Pakistan is a developing country and the PPP government under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari will transform it into a developed democratic state. The government is paying special attention to end loadshedding, unemployment and to control price hike in the country, so that the living standard of people could be raised, he said.
