Pakistan Muslim League-N on Tuesday opposed the privatisation of Qadirpur Gas Field and demanded of the government to withdraw its decision in this regard. This was stated by Secretary Information Pakistan Muslim League-N, Ahsan Iqbal while addressing the sit-in demonstration of the workers of Oil Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), who have launched a protest campaign against Qadirpur Gas Fields' privatisation.
He said Qadirpur Gas Field (QGF) is like the spinal card of the Pakistan economy. It is not only the largest gas production unit of OGDCL but the second largest gas field of the country. Iqbal said that the country is already facing energy crises and the untimely privatisation of QGF would further worsen the energy situation. He said that people elected the new government on February 18 not only to get rid of a dictator but also to change his pro-America policies, which had proved to be disastrous in all aspects.
Ahsan criticised the government for continuation of the pro-America policies, saying that our forces are bombing on our own people and has created a civil war like situation. "We do not know why the present government still following the anti-people policies which caused the country irreparable damages," he maintained.
The PML-N leader demanded of the government to immediate review its policies and PML-N would fully support in the larger interest of the nation. He said that we do not believe in politics of confrontation. We want to play our role as per the Charter of Democracy for the promotion of the democratic norms.
He said the country is passing through a critical juncture and joint efforts are needed to address the problems being faced. He said PML-N has a very clear and consistent stance over the judiciary issue and it will continue supporting the lawyers' movement till the achievement of the objective. He assured the workers of OGDCL of full support for their struggle.
Meanwhile, expressing their concern over the selling out of the OGDCL huge assets, the workers hold a rally led by President Worker's Union Collective Bargain Agent (CBA) Chaudhary Mohammad Akram. The rally was attended by thousands of the affected workers.
The rally was taken out from OGDCL headquarters and ended at the front of Parliament House where they staged sit-in to build up pressure on the government for withdrawal its decision of QGF privatisation. He further added that the government is expecting 3 billion dollar to 4 billion dollar from QGF's privatisation. He termed the decision of selling out of the OGDCL asset as conspiracy against the national economy.
They demanded of the government to withdraw its decision, which they said not only in favour of the OGDCL workers but for the whole nation. Genral Secretary of Mazdoor Union Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chaudhary Yaseen also addressed the rally and assured his full support to the workers.
