Pakistan's High Commissioner in Ottawa Musa Javed Chohan has said that government is fully aware of the positive relationship between economic development and education and making every possible effort to improve the quality and access to education for the students.
The High Commissioner was addressing a function, organised by the Developments in Literacy (DIL) to mobilise resources for the schools being funded by it in Pakistan. The High Commissioner said that knowledge is a key driver for human development, enabling it to add value to civilised life. Knowledge is essentially a product of education, he said.
Quoting from the speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the High Commissioner said education is must to ensure real, speedy and substantial progress. He said Quaid-e-Azam also said there is an immediate and urgent need for giving scientific and technical education to the people in order to build up future life and to see that they take to science, commerce, trade and particularly well planned industry.
He said that education is crucial for developing human resources and for opening opportunities. Development in Literacy (DIL) is a California based non-profit organisation working for the eradication of illiteracy in the remote and neglected areas of Pakistan by establishing primary and secondary level schools for under privileged children, especially the girl-child.
Mrs Talat Chaudhry President DIL Canada in her remarks said that in a short span of ten years, DIL has succeeded in establishing 150 schools in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations, in Pakistan to create an effective and transparent educational network.
DIL Canada supports five of these schools which are: Al Imran Memorial DIL School in Orangi, Karachi; DIL Paradise in Orangi, Karachi; DIL Mohammed in Organi, Karachi; DIL Grammar in Orangi, Karachi and DIL Community Model School in Ghora Mast, Islamabad. Mrs Talat Chaudhry said DIL operates out of Canada, US, Singapore and in Pakistan.
