Unknown kidnappers have seized an Israeli businessman in Ghana, and are demanding 300,000 dollars for his release, a security official said Friday. National Security Co-ordinator Sam Amoo told journalists the kidnappers contacted the businessman's relatives in Israel and demanded their ransom money. Amoo said the man was abducted last Sunday and that a task force made up of the different security agencies has been working to free him ever since.
He did not identify the man or say where or in what circumstances he was seized. The Jerusalem Post said on its website the man is in his sixties but did not identify him either.
The Post said the business partner of the kidnapped man first reported the abduction but gave no further details. Cases of kidnapping are rare in Ghana, but common in nearby Nigeria, where hundreds of people have been abducted in the past three years, normally to be released against payment of a ransom.
