President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Dr Khurram Anwar Khawaja has hailed the decision of the government for providing 60 percent interim relief to the power consumers. Talking to Business Recorder here on Saturday he added that it would provide timely relief to the masses but it high time that the issue of high tariff of electricity should be resolved on permanent basis.
Dr Khurram stressed upon the concerned authorities that "Old Slab" system should revived because the slab system has been abolished from the current electricity and sui bills which unjust.
The increase in electricity charges and unscheduled load shedding has crippled the industrial sector because the productivity has become standstill as a result of which this export-oriented city was confronting with multifarious problems, he said.
Expressing his fear he said that if the situation of electricity remained the same and high tariff persist than industrial sector would face serious setback and national economy would be in jeopardy.
The SCCI President further stated that electricity and sui gas were the key elements for ensuring hurdle-free continuity in productivity but at present industry was adversely suffering due non-availability of power and gas. Dr Khurram further said that exporter community was suffering imperfectly and unable to fulfill its international commitments because load shedding causing serious problems in accomplishment of foreign orders while foreign buyers were hesitating in giving new orders to Pakistani exporters.
If the immediate remedial were not taken subsequently Pakistan will lose international markets, he added. Expressing his hope the President SCCI said that government will take appropriate steps for the revival of old slab system in sui gas and electricity bills and reduce the prices for the larger national interests.
