The Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) on Wednesday demanded that the matter pertaining to seizing of River Chenab water by India should be taken to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The PML-Q Punjab President and former Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi told in a news conference, on Wednesday that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) led government has failed to get the water distribution agreements with the Indian government implemented. Therefore, the country's agriculture sector is facing negative effects, he added.
Elahi was of the view that the government would have to take decision for the construction of Kalabagh Dam. He said that the government would have to take some difficult decisions to overcome the crises being faced by the country.
Further, he said that closure of factories mainly because of load shedding and gas supply disruption have rendered a large number of workers jobless resulting in increase in unemployment
He said shortage of wheat flour was mainly due to mismanagement and rooti at Rs 2 is not giving any benefit to people. The PML-Q leader further said that farmers are not getting due price of cotton due to the government's negligence. Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of the government, he said the PML-Q is holding public meetings in all the districts from next month to apprise of the people about the government's performance.
He also said that he himself is conducting tours of different districts from next month, as a part of the party's reorganisation campaign. Replying to a question about reunification in Muslim League, he said that it was a democratic process but, Punjab government has started revengeful activities against the PML-Q leaders and workers and dozens of fake cases were registered against the party workers in every district.
Elahi further said that the government talked much about agriculture sector but no practical steps have been taken so far for its betterment. 'On one hand, the government had increased the wheat support price while on the other hand, farmers were facing fertiliser and water shortage,' he said adding that the Chenab water seizure by India has further aggravated the situation.
He also expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives in devastating earthquake in Balochistan and asked the PML-Q workers as well as people to fully participate in relief activities and help the earthquake victims.
Furthermore, he said that the PML-Q is united and would continue to play its due role at this critical juncture of the history. Elahi also condemned those so-called politicians, who are trying to damage the institutions for their vested interests.
About Pervez Musharraf, he said that as per law, Musharraf cannot participate in political activities up to two years after retirement. Earlier, Elahi chaired a meeting of the PML-Q office bearers from Kasur and Nankana Sahib districts and discussed various national and party matters.
The PML-Q President, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein said that talking about the merger of Muslim League fractions was a good omen for the country as well as the nation. Talking to reporters at Allama Iqbal International Airport on his return from London and Germany, Shujaat said that accepting or not accepting anyone's leadership was a secondary thing, because the real issue was to pull the country out from the present crisis.
He said that no one could deny the fact that unification of the Muslim League would be in the interest of the country and the nation, but the real problem was with its modus operandi. Answering a question, he said that there was no seventh man from six in the forward bloc of ML-Q, who have no status and change in party leadership will be decided in the party elections.
