The vocational and technical institutions being run under the auspices of National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (NAVTEC) in Punjab will commence the classes of 60 courses from November 15.
The Commission has released Rs 72.7 million (40 percent of the total amount) to the vocational institutions for the first phase, while another 40 percent will be released after three months, and the rest of 20 percent will be released at the end of the courses.
Pakistan Readymade Garments Training Institute (PRGTI), Social Welfare Training Institute and Idara-e-Nasheman, Punjab Vocational Training Institute, Pakistan Railway Apprentice Training Centre Mughalpura, Lahore, and Leather Products Development Institute Sialkot are among the institutions which received the grant.
Male students will get training in the electrician courses (all categories), leather garments, pattern making and fashion designing, leather gloves, pattern making and fashion designing, ladies leather gloves manufacturing technology, leather garments manufacturing technology, and computerised garments pattern making and designing (CAD CAM/CIM) technology.
Other courses for male trainees include air-conditioning and refrigeration, motor winding, IC Engine fitter/motor mechanic, machinist, pattern making, moulding, steel fixing and welding.
Female students will get training in childcare, office automation and management, driving, cooking, beautician, basic computer, canning, tailoring, mobile repairing and rewinding etc.
Talking to APP here Sunday, Regional Director NAVTEC Abid Javed said that his department has hired the services of vocational institutions for the training of 100,000 individuals across the country during the current financial year.
He said a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 will be provided to each student during the training, while after the training course Rs 5,000 will be given to each student to purchase the tool kit.
Meanwhile, NAVTEC has established 42 institutions at a cost of Rs 170 million for male and female students in 21 tehsils of the Punjab province, where vocational institutions did not exist earlier. Classes in these institutions will be started from January 2009.
Tehsils where vocational and technical institutions have been established include Sambrial (district Sialkot), Piplan (Mianwali), Sahiwal, Kot Momen (Sargodha), Kotli Sattian, Kallar Syedan (Rawalpindi), Ahmed Pur Sial (Jhang), Malikwal (Mandi Bahauddin), Kallar Kahar (Chakwal), Chak Jhumra, Tandlianwala (Faisalabad), Kot Radha Kishan (Kasur), Renala Khurd (Okara), Muridke, Safdarabad (Sheikhupura), Shahkot (Nankana Sahib), Jattoi (Muzaffargarh), Jehanian (Khanewal), Tribal Area of Fort Manro (DG Khan), Khairpur Tamewali (Bahawalpur) and Kehror Pakka (Lodhran).
