Professor Ali Ahmed Khan, Emeritus Consultant Psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry has said that the west after the incident of 9/11 torturing the Muslims Psychologically at the pretext of so-called war on terror to suppress Muslim nation.
This he said while speaking on the topic of British Media and Islamphobia at the conclusion of a two-day International Conference on Media and Social Change at Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi on Thursday.
He blamed British journalists have not much knowledge about Islam and due to lack of information they are continuously tarnishing the sanctity of Islam. They are treating the Muslims as the followers of newly developed religion, he said. The media has also played its role to defame Islam and its followers in front of the west, he said.
Dr Natalia Zamaraeva from Institute of Oriental Studies, Russain Academy of Sciences has said that the development of the modern democracy is going on the concrete historical ground and every people has its own historical experience, traditions religion and mentality. The process of democracy in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is an important element of the universal democratic process and present world policy, she said.
She said that the past general election in February 2008 and the latest presidential campaign in August 2008 in Pakistan are considered as the manifestation of the democratic tendency and political life of Pakistani society.
She said that since 1947 mass media, state and private has been growing, strengthening and diversifying rapidly. Its role in developing, creating, promoting and defending basic human rights and democracy in Pakistan has increased sharply recently, she said.
She said that in these days the country is facing several internal and external challenges including, food, energy and water scarcity population growth shortage of infrastructure, knowledge and skill deficiencies, unemployment, resource constraint, sectarianism, ethnicity, extremism and terrorism.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Mansoor Kundi from Balochistan University has said that no one can resist to change in society but it can be converted into development by adopting positive strategies. Educators, experts, national and international representatives and journalists were also present on the occasion.
