The Fata Secretariat of the NWFP Governor has successfully completed the refurbishing and renovation of Primary School in Kharkay, a remote village in Orakzai Agency. The project was identified during a community consensus Jirga, as top priority because the school did not have electricity, functioning sanitary system, boundary wall or solid roof.
By renovating the school, the elders wanted to promote education among the community youth. The government in its efforts for provision of better facilities enrolled 110 children in the school and raised their motivation for acquiring education. After the renovation and refurbishing the students have better quality services, clean drinking water, and a safe environment for getting education.
About the completed scheme, a representative of the local community, Haji Husain Ali acknowledged: "The renovation of the school by the Political Administration Orakzai Agency is an indicator that now the government is showing interest in the state of affairs at the community level." He hoped that "Our educated youth is going to contribute handsomely to the development of the whole nation."
During the ceremony, Assistant Political Agent (APA) Ahmad Khan Wazir said that the Political Administration is striving to change the perceptions of the community and enhance the capacity of the Government of Pakistan's reach into the communities of the Fata.
He further said that this scheme covered the cost of renovating the school building, improving sanitation, providing a clean water supply, new electric fitting, and painting the school building. However the community had provided labour for painting and cleaning the school before and after renovation.
