The Vice Chancellor (VC), University of Health Sciences (UHS), Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar has said that the varsity for the first time in Pakistan has introduced the system of Objectively Structured Practical Examinations (OSPEs) at undergraduate level.
The step was taken to ascertain fair, pro-merit, objective-oriented and standard practical examinations in line with Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) and local needs. He was talking to the students of third professional MBBS during a visit to an examination centre at Jinnah Hospital on Friday.
Mubbashar said that OSPEs would ensure complete transparency during viva voce in undergraduate examinations and it would make assessment more transparent and accurate. While conversing to the VC, medical students appreciated the new system of clinical and practical examination and discussed various academic matters.
Under the new system, the examination hall will be divided into a number of observed (interactive) and unobserved (non-interactive) stations. The candidate, according to the plan, carries his or her practical answer book from one station to the next and registers his or her responses to each question at separate desks on the same practical answer sheet in the designated area.
Further, before leaving the assessment hall, the candidate will have to deposit the answer book to the marking desk where it will be marked and sent back to the university on the same day. At the interactive stations, the student will interact with standardised patients and answers questions based on patient's clinical and social history.
