Three security personnel were killed and several other injured in a suicide attack in Subhan Khawar, Shabqadar of district Charsadda, while a US citizen and his driver were gunned down in the posh University Town here on Wednesday.
In the first incident, a suicide bomber blown himself up near the training centre of Frontier Constabulary (FC) at Subhan Khawar, about one kilometre from Shabqadar city, killing three security personnel. After the attack, the security forces cordoned off the area and started relief operations.
In the second incident occurred on the Jamaluddin Afghani Road of the University Town, a US citizen, along with his driver, were killed by unknown gunmen. According to reports, US citizen Stephan, who was working on a project of the Fata Development Authority, and was residing in a guesthouse. When he came out for his office, unknown gunmen sprayed bullets, killing Stephan and his driver Shakoor Rehman, a resident of Peshawar, on the spot.
NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the killing of the US citizen and his driver. In his condolence message, the Governor described the incident as an outraging act. The killers, he added, would be hunted down and brought to justice. "We consider the safety and security of our foreign guests at the highest esteem and we are shocked over the incident", he said. The incident, he added, was also completely repugnant to the local customs and norms.
