National Immunisation Campaign against polio will be launched from November 24 to November 26, 2008. During which Polio vaccine drops along-with Vitamin-A supplementation would be administrated to the children up to five years of age.
Punjab Health Department has finalised arrangements to immunise more than 15.8 million children in Punjab. Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians and Pakistan Paediatric Association have decided to fully participate in three days national anti-polio campaign.
This was disclosed by Director General Health Services Punjab, Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry while presiding over a meeting. He said that the President Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians Dr Aftab Iqbal Sheikh and General Secretary Pakistan Paediatric Association Dr Munir Akhtar Saleemi has written letters to the members of their associations for full participation in this national campaign.
DG Health further said that as per directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, National Immunisation Campaign would be started enthusiastically to eradicate polio from our country. He said that doctors, social and community workers, teachers, religious leaders and political workers can play vital role by motivating and creating awareness in the community for getting their children immunised during the forthcoming NIDs.
DG Health said that all the arrangements have been completed for this campaign and 38 thousand mobile teams have been constituted for administering polio drops and vitamin-A to the children of up to five year of age.
He said that special monitoring teams have also been constituted to keep an eye on the working of the mobile teams. He further said that polio vaccination facility has also been provided in all the hospitals and medical centres. He made it clear that no slackness will be tolerated in polio campaign.
He urged upon all parents, social and community workers and other segments of society to cooperate with the mobile teams and officials of health department for making NIDs a success.
