The government should focus on knowledge based economy to create productive workforce to strengthen services sector for exporting skilled manpower to other parts of the world. This was stated by Shahid Ahmed, Federal Additional Secretary for Education while addressing the participants of Intel Education Awards organised by Intel Corporation Pakistan in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education here on Saturday.
Shahid Ahmed said that this is the area in which we are lacking, therefore, the government should take initiatives to overcome this lacking. He further said that for IT students, government has establish the infrastructure but there is a need to expand it and make it workable for the students to explore this field. He stressed upon the need to equip the educational institutions with modern technology so that students may be able to solve their own problems.
In this event, approximately 100 teachers participated from private and government schools of the NWFP, out of which 14 won a cash award of Rs 5,000 each, who used technology effectively in promoting inquiry based learning. Speaking on the occasion, Ashar H Zaidi, Country Manager, Intel Pakistan Corporation said: "Intel Education Awards are held keeping in mind the objective of keeping teachers abreast with the latest teaching methodologies."
He further said that outstanding schools and teachers who demonstrate innovative use of technology are given recognition so that they keep going strong and inculcate cutting edge skills in our students to prepare a next generation of brilliant scientists.
