Information Minister Sherry Rehman has said that PPP government had nothing to do with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif's daughter case as the party did not indulge in such tactics. Talking to media persons in the Parliament House here on Friday, she hoped that PML-N would not indulge in confrontational politics at this critical juncture.
"Nobody from the government knew about the Mariam Nawaz case, and the PPP government does not indulge in such tactics," she said while responding to a question. There is no justification of involving the government in this issue, she said emphatically. Sherry said the PPP and PML-N have remained allies and the present government wants to create an environment in which all should move forward in consultation with each other and work for the betterment of the country.
The minister said that PML-Q MNA Shehnaz Sheikh raised the issue and later said that someone had given her the letter to be handed over to PML-N leaders. She said that the government had convened all parties conference on sensitive issues and consensus has been developed on the issues of national importance.
Replying to a question she said in India, broadcasters and media have submitted a code of conduct for crisis situations to the Information Ministry and assured the government that they would follow that code.
In coming few days, Sherry said, she would like to meet Pakistan Broadcasters Association to formulate a joint strategy for safeguarding national interests. She said that media, which shapes the public opinion, should come forward and realise its duty.
While answering another question, the minister said she holds open house almost every week, so that people can approach us easily. "We have not come through a backdoor and without the votes of the masses we have no existence," she said. To a question, she said that President Zardari's Kabul visit has been postponed due to inclement weather.
To another question, she said that Indian government has not shared any evidences or proofs of Mumbai attacks with Pakistan so far. She said that at this time of crisis, all institutions of the country should work in co-ordination. Sherry said that war was not in the interest of both India and Pakistan or the masses of both the countries and it was necessary not to create a hysterical situation.
