Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto has written a history of social, economic and political welfare by her continuous efforts and hard work, which was acknowledged by the United Nations Security Council while conferring human rights award on her.
This was stated by Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry while talking to various delegations, including the Pakistan People's Party women workers, here on Monday.
Neelam said the new generation might get guidance from the philosophy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and work for strengthening of the democratic institutions in the country. Neelam said the PPP was the saviour party of the country and "we would continue our struggle for the welfare of the people and protection of the country."
She said the PPP had promoted real democracy in Pakistan, while it had always struggled for the strengthening of democratic institutions and for the rights of downtrodden people.
"The PPP is the party whose leaders and workers both sacrificed their lives to achieve the goals," she added. Neelam recalled the political will of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that "the party would continue to fight against extremism, ignorance and poverty."
She called upon the party workers to rededicate themselves to the ideals of their for which she Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir laid down her life. To provide relief to the needy people, the government had launched "Benazir Income Support Programme" worth Rs 34 billion, she said, and added three million deserving families would be benefited from this scheme and the amount would be doubled later on. She added that the Punjab government had also launched a Rs 58.64 billion social sector development programme, besides while food support programmes had also been launched for the needy people.
She said that womenfolk would be empowered in all sections of society and opportunities of employment would be provided to them in government, semi-government and private organisations so that they could play their due role in the development of the country.
