'Floriculture centre to be set up for farmers training, research'

The Punjab government will set up a 'floriculture centre' in Pattoki to promote floriculture through research and training of the farmers. This was stated by the Colonel Shujaa Khanzada (Retd), Chairman Agricultural Task Force, while chairing a meeting held to discuss measures for increasing production of pulses, vegetables and flowers.
Chairman Agriculture Task Force said that a research centre for research on pulses would also be set up in Khanewal to produce hybrid seeds of different pulses to increase the production. Speaking on this occasion Dr Mubarak Ali Chief Executive Punjab Agricultural Research Board through a presentation said that according to the dietitians, vegetables should be 70 percent of the food of human beings while in our country it constitutes only 52 percent.
He said besides, increasing the production of vegetables we should also create awareness about their advantages. He said that vegetables were being preferred throughout the world over meat. He proposed that horticultural crops unit and home gardening should be promoted so as people could have fresh vegetables in their homes.
The meeting was attended by the Director General Agriculture (Extension), Chief Executive Agricultural Research Board, Project Director Fruit and Vegetable Development, Director Economics and Marketing, Director Arid Agriculture Research Institute, Director Vegetable and Director Horticulture Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad and representatives of different farmers organisations.
