A moderate earthquake of 5.5 magnitude felt in the coastal areas of the country here on Friday morning at 2:40am local time, no damage of property or life was reported. According to Met officer Sindh Chief Raiz, an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude struck coastal areas of the country, at a depth of 10 kilometres and the epicentre was 305 kilometres west-south-west of Karachi, a private television channel reported.
He also said that at present no warning had been issued as such tremors were not of much concern as long as if remained under six-magnitude. Meanwhile US Geological Survey said that a six-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast area of Pakistan. Pakistan is located in a zone where the Eurasian, Arabian and Indo-Australian tectonic plates meet and rub together, sometimes causing earthquakes.
