A retrospective exhibition of 55-year professional France based Pakistani artist, Masood Kohari would open at National Art Gallery (NAG) by the end of January. Carrying a collection of glass works, ceramics, oil paintings and drawings, the exhibition would showcase over 70 works of the artist who produced thousands of art pieces throughout his career.
A major part of Kohari's work is based on ceramic and glass art on tiles and vases - the real medium for his artistic expression. While his works also include various techniques of wood, metal and wax through, which the artist expresses his sensibilities of form, texture and colour.
"I have learnt the technicalities of this slow and painstaking medium through sheer patience and dedication to capture transparency in the textures," said Masood Kohari here on Wednesday while talking APP. Many painters in Europe have experienced in ceramics and other allied mediums but in Pakistan, Kohari is the first who has adopted this medium for the expression of his artistic talent, says art analysts about his works.
As a medium of expression, the artist introduced this medium in 1968 when the major exhibition of paintings, relief and works in three dimensional forms in ceramics was held at Pakistan Arts Council, Karachi. Later in France, Kohari continued his experimental work in the period between 1970-80 that show ceramic collages using material like iron, wires, net, copper and glass.
