President Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that PML-Q would keep its identity intact and continue to sit on the opposition benches in parliament. Talking to newsmen after party meeting here on Friday, he said PML-Q would do issue-based politics without joining the ruling coalition and continue to play positive role.
Earlier, he chaired a party meeting, which was said to be a consultative meeting over the prevailing political situation in the country amid rumours that PML-Q was seriously considering to put his weight either behind Pakistan People's Party in the federal government or Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Punjab ahead of senate elections.
Shujaat firmly ruled out any such probability, saying his party will continue playing a positive role for the betterment of the country while sitting on opposition benches. He also dismissed the differences within the party and said the party leadership is united.
He said the country was facing power outage that was affecting both the industry and routine life. Secretary General PML-Q Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that the meeting has unanimously adopted a resolution to condemn the brutalities of Israel on Hamas and expressed solidarity with the Palestinian brethren.
He said the meeting also chalked out a strategy to activate the party, adding that PML-Q has its presence in all four provinces. To a question, he said the country can not afford early election and even people are not ready for it. He said that the PML-Q would continue playing its due role in Parliament on national as well as international issues.
Former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said, "We are not trying to contact any political party rather they are approaching us". Elahi alleged that PML-Q workers are being victimised in Punjab and over 50 fake cases have been registered against them.
