City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has invested Rs 30 million on wireless video surveillance system to ensure security of Muharram processions. Addressing a press conference at "Command & Control (C&C) centre of CDGK here on Monday, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that CDGK had installed five monitoring cameras at all entrance of Nishtar Park to ensure security of Muaharrram congregation.
"The surveillance cameras will monitor through nine screen at C&C and police has given access to this facility, so they with the help of these visual cameras, can quickly approach to a suspected location'" Kamal said.
He said the government has already installed 11 closed-circuit video system with the investment of Rs 110 million on corridor-I for monitoring the congested traffic and other happenings on that route. Kamal said that these steps had not been taken temporarily but the installed cameras would remain permanently at the same locations to secure the lives of the citizens.
" In the second phase of CDGK's Command & Control system, it would have a clear watch on the road from Tower to Airport and Tower to Sohrab Goath within next two months," he added.
To a query he said that the monitoring system had fixed cameras around Nishtar Park and M.A Jinnah Road from Numaish to Tower on immediate basis. " The data recorded by these cameras will be available for at least 10 years and this would be extended if needed," he added.
Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has directed the police to use C&C room and ensure the security in the city during the Muharram, he added. He said that on the special directives of Sindh home Minister, SP Naeem Shaikh, and DSP Qasim Ghouri had been deputed at City government's command and control center while the EDO Municipal Services would oversee the camps established for Muharram-ul-Haram. "This facility will be provided to Police for all time and only SP and DSP ranked police personnel will have the access to the room" he added.
