Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that new generation is growing up under the shadows of blasts but this generation will make the country citadel of peace. She said this while addressing the award distribution ceremony of Inter-provincial speech, debate and essay writing competition, here at Alhamra Hall on Saturday.
Kulsoom Nawaz expressed the optimism that new generation will make Pakistan a centre of peace. She further said that students apart from concentrating on their education must concentrate on extra curricular activities. She said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is devotedly working for public welfare in different sectors.
Among others, Punjab Ministers Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor and Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman spoke on the occasion and highlighted steps being taken by the PML-N government in Punjab for public welfare. A large number of PML-N workers also attended the function and raised full-throated slogans in favour of the PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. Later, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz distributed prizes among the students who participated in the contest.
Moreover, after five blasts that rocked two theatres in Lahore on Friday night, the Punjab government warned that it would not allow anyone to challenge its writ and play with the lives and property of the common man. Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs, Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam on Saturday addressed the meeting of Resident Directors of all the Arts Councils of Punjab at Alhamra Hall Committee Room.
Addressing the meeting, he said that cultural activities as well as recreational programmes would be promoted in the province and all out measures would be taken for providing security to the spectators. He said that annual grants of arts councils would be enhanced and walk-through gates and Close Circuit Cameras would be installed in the entrance of all drama theatre halls.
The meeting was attended by Executive Director Punjab Arts Council Ghulam Mustafa and all the directors of arts councils in eight divisions of the province.
