Federal Minister for Defence Production, Abdul Qayyum Jatoi has emphasised the need for undertaking new development projects and aggressive marketing approach to increase export and earn foreign exchange for the country. He was addressing a meeting held to discuss various strategies to formulate future export plans and increase export of the defence industry of the country here on Thursday.
The minister appreciated the contribution and endeavour made by the management for strengthening the defence industry in Pakistan. He assured the participants of the meeting that steps would be taken to streamline and expedite the export process. The Minister was given comprehensive presentation by the heads of the allied organisations of the Ministry including Chairmen of Pakistan Ordnance Factory, Heavy Industries Taxila, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and Managing Directors of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works and National Radio Telecommunication.
The participants advanced various suggestions how to develop new projects and strengthen the defence industry units of Pakistan to cater to the needs of Pakistan Armed Forces. The participants identified various areas where the potential of the industry could be enhanced. The Minister was also informed about certain procedural bottlenecks hampering the progress of the industry and affecting its export.
