Indonesian shares closed 0.4 percent higher on Thursday, helped by the firmer rupiah and gains in most Asian markets, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index rose 5.89 points to 1,327.32 in thin volume. "The market consolidated after recent falls amid generally cautious sentiment," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires.
Gas Negara gained 6.3 percent to 2,020 rupiah and heavyweight Telkom rose 1.5 percent to 6,450 as investors sought bargains. Bank Rakyat fell 2.7 percent to 4,525 rupiah. The rupiah held its ground at 11,260 to the dollar compared with 11,240 previously.
