Chairman Task Force on Essential Commodities S.M. Hameed has said that government has decided to sale Atta on trucks at prominent and approachable points to facilitate the masses and edging out the possibilities of black-marketing hoarding in Punjab. The government would not tolerate the practice of hoarding of Atta bags and hoarders would be dealt with iron hands in the Punjab he said.
Speaking at press conference here on Friday he revealed special attention has also been accorded on ensuring availability of essential commodities in the markets as well as in Itwaar bazaars to facilitate the masses.
The government was actively considering on minimising the prices of ghee and other articles of daily use in the province, Hameed said. In order to check the quality of the articles of daily use in Itwaar bazaar and sasti roti scheme, government has already constituted special monitoring teams for the purpose, while Punjab Chief Minister personally scrutinising situation in the Punjab, he said.
The Chairman Task Force further stated that government has set aside Rs 80 crore for the provision of sasti roti scheme aimed at facilitating the poor segment of the society adding that in this regard more sasta tandoors would be set up throughout the Punjab for providing sasti roti at fixed price. As many as 1400,000 families are being benefited under Food Stamp Programme in the province and in this regard foolproof disbursement arrangements have been made by Pakistan Postal Authorities, he disclosed.
Apart from this the government has focused its attention on maintaining law and order, improvement of health sector, promotion of industrial and agriculture sector on top priorities in the Punjab, he said. District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Captain Atta Muhammad Khan (Retd) told that at present 37 sasta tandoors were functioning in Sialkot while are making adequate efforts for setting more sasta tandoors in the area.
