Kissan Board will held protest through out the country at district and divisional level from 9th February against the lack of interest by government towards development of agriculture. This was decided in the meeting of General Council of Kissan Board here on Sunday, which alleged that Government of Pakistan was not interested in the development of agriculture in the country.
Sindh President of the Board, Sardar Akbar, President NWFP Manzur Hussain, Punjab President Khurshed Kanju and others of the Board attended the meeting.
It was said that despite bumper crop of rice, uneven marketing system, middle- man and Pasco were affecting the agriculturists. The meeting observed that cotton agriculturists also suffered because of that.
The meeting also criticised 82 sugar mill owners of the Country for their exploitation of sugarcane producers.
The meeting observed that for 2009, increase of yield of wheat crop from 23 maund to 29 maund per acre, despite 40 percent shortage of water, load shedding, expensive diesel, sale of urea in black market was not comprehendible.
The Kissan Board on the occasion demanded from the Government to punish those involved in black marketing of urea, improve marketing system, provision of without interest loans, provision of diesel at international rate, establishing research center for agriculture, construction of dams on the occasion.
For their demands Kissan Board on February 9,2009 would protest on the district and divisional headquarters in the Country. The protests would continue till demands of the farmers were met, meeting added.
