A five member delegation of Canadian Solar Incorporation (CSI), headed by Special Advisor to Immigration Minister, Canada, Wajid Khan called on Chairman, National Vocational & Technical Education Commission (NAVTEC), Adnan A. Khawaja in his office at the Prime Minister's secretariat, here Tuesday.
During the meeting, ways and means were discussed to promote collaboration between the two countries to increase volume of solar & green energy generation in Pakistan. Solar energy is generally considered as the energy of the future due to its enormous benefits.
NAVTEC Chairman told the delegation that currently Pakistan was facing acute energy shortages and, therefore, would welcome initiative from the Canadian firm to set up solar units in the country and train the solar technicians.
He thanked the delegation for visiting Pakistan and showing interest to meet Pakistan's energy requirements. He was sure that solar energy has the potential to meet all our future energy needs. It would be a unique example in Pakistan that solar technicians would be trained in vocational & technical institutes.
Briefing about NAVTEC's mandate and its functions, the Executive Director of the Commission, Muhammad Athar Tahir proposed the delegation various options to initiate their operations in Pakistan. He said, the Canadian firms will be welcomed both in public and private sectors to establish green energy generation projects. However, the focus must remain on exchange of technology and knowledge, he added.
Wajid Khan stated that they will be glad to collaborate with Pakistan to meet its energy needs. David Arenburg, Director of International Sales, CSI, informed the meeting that the prices of solar cells have recently been reduced considerably, resulting in reduction in cost of setting up solar units.-PR
