Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Federal Minister for Population Welfare has said that in the present circumstances nation cannot afford any political crisis because it will derail the train of democracy in country. She was talking to the media at Population Welfare Training Institute here on Monday.
She said that Long March is not in favour of any Society. Such issues must be solved by political means rather non-political and non-democratic process. Responding to a question she further said that Pakistan Peoples Party's agenda is political reconciliation, if PPP separates out from the Government of Punjab, it will give birth to a series of crises. As a representative of Federation, the presence of PPP in the Punjab Government is a must.
"PML -N government is interfering into constituencies, depicting their dual standards of law and justice. Many MNAs and MPAs of Peoples Party are the victims of this dual behaviour of PML -N, she added. She said that the past governments had been neglecting the Population Welfare Ministry. She further said that it was the vision of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, when she attended a conference in Cairo in 1994, she gave the concept of Millennium development goal.
She said, the concept of family planning had been a victim of diverse verdicts of the Islamic extremists. The present Government of Pakistan Peoples Party is consulting other Muslim Countries. The Non-Controversial verdicts of Islamic world are being published in Urdu Translation to be delivered to the Ulema and to the target audience.
Dr Firdous said that all the issues regarding unemployment, poverty are direct outcome of the population explosion. She said the ministry is now working on the modern lines to take all the stakeholders on board. She emphasised the role of media in this connection. The Ministry is planning capacity building and training courses for the official & Non-official personnel.
She further added that Ministry is preparing recommendations to arrange Seminars for the youth at college & university levels. The important Programmes of the Ministry of Population Welfare include the reproductive health sector, reduction in mother mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate.
