The long march is for lawyers and for political parties, this is the wrong march, federal minister for parliamentary affairs senator Babar Awan said Sunday. He said judges could only be reinstated as per government policy and not through any agitation.
He said there was nothing in the Constitution about the measure for the reinstatement of judges and they could not be reinstated because of marches and meetings being held for that. He said the 'Long March' could not be beneficial for the judiciary. The Minister averred that they would not allow to destroy democracy in the country nor hijack it.
He said that the best way for the judges, who had been left to be restored, is the same, which was adopted for other judges. Babar Awan said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had reservations against the Pakistan Muslim League (N) on the agreed matters.
He said that the imposition of Sharia ordinance in Swat is an important milestone. He said for change in 17th amendment, the PML-N should take into confidence all political parties including the MQM. He said like SWAT, the problems of the province of Balochistan would be solved through negotiations and the government was alive to that, he added. He said that murderers of Shahid Imtiaz a PPP leader of Lahore would be apprehended soon.
